Shedding some Pounds

A kind colleague brought in a small collection of her husband's Runners World magazines.  I have been enjoying leafing through them and finding out some useful tips for stretches, exercises and eating etc.  I am also inspired by the different races around the world in many beautiful locations, but there is also a swift realisation that there is only so much that any one person can do in life.

I am very encouraged by the donations that have been coming in for the marathon.  We are nearly halfway there at around £4500, so thanks to all those who have been shedding £££s.

My training continues although it has been slightly dampened by a bout of sinusitis which I have had for about 4 days. Hopefully that is now on the mend so I can up the tempo again.

Another thing that Runners World has a lot to say about is running leaner and how that improves your running all round.  Well, hopefully it is some encouragement to others, but there are many muscles I haven't seen evidence of in my body.  I know that they are there because I can move and run and swim and all that, but all my life they have been covered by a layer of adipose tissue, bluntly known as, yes, fat.  I like to see it as potential energy, but I concede that it should not remain as potential energy, but should be converted to kinetic energy.

With all the running and other exercising, I would have expected to see some more definition somewhere in my body, but as I shed the pounds (lbs), I realise how much I was hiding around and about. Its a bit scary how easy it is to hide 10kgs+ of fat without even noticing.

So, run I must, and hopefully be the time the marathon comes around, I will see a little definition, even if only on my legs. :-)
